Philanthropy
Grantmaking
- • IWC is pleased to play a philanthropic role in the local community. Grantmaking adheres to our “three pillars of giving.” In 2024, the focus is children and families, education and health. Grant funding comes from membership revenues, community sponsorships and sales of IWC merchandise.
- • The annual grant process starts with a call for proposals in January with grant applications due in March. Grants are formally awarded in June, following board approval in May.
- • Recent grants: In 2024, IWC awarded $10,000 to Vision Bermuda for its Critical Needs Program. Another grant of $5,000 was given to It Takes a Village to fund the Community Birthing Program. Here is a List of prior grantees. The Grant Application is enabled during the grant period.
Community Involvment
- • PGA Golf Tour: Port Royal Golf Course hosts a PGA golf event every November that relies on hundreds of volunteers over the four-day tournament. Please consider helping out during this fun sporting event. By volunteering for a minimum of 3 shifts, the PGA donates $200 per person. IWC puts this money towards its annual grant program. Last year we earned $2,800!

• Relay for Life: Every May, IWC fields a team in support of the Relay For Life, a fundraising event for the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre. We need volunteers to help plan and staff this entire event helping to create a lively, positive atmosphere. Last year, IWC raised $4,700 for the BCHC. We hope you’ll get involved!

Community Donations
-
• Holiday Food Hampers: During the holiday season, IWC provides food hampers packed with necessities and holiday goodies for families in need through The Family Centre. Funding comes from the generous donations of IWC members. Last year, we raised $5,000 to help families enjoy the holidays!
• Senior Gift Bags: Every year in December, IWC members fund and pack gift bags for residents of the Lorraine and Packwood Homes. The gift bags are funded through the generous donations of IWC members.
• Please refer to the instructions on how to donate if you like to donate to Holiday Food Hamper and Senior Gift Bags.
Individual Volunteering
- • IWC has an informal partnership with the Nonprofit Alliance of Bermuda. One of its initiatives seeks to connect skilled individuals with meaningful opportunities to contribute to Bermuda’s nonprofit community.
• Additionally, IWC frequently becomes aware of opportunities for individual volunteer positions – some are short-term, others are long-term. Please contact IWC at secretary@iwcbda.com for open volunteering positions.
• For any other questions related to philanthropy, please contact the IWC Philanthropy Chair, Jennifer Bull or the deputy, Attilee Dalene at philanthropy@iwcbda.com
